Biodiversity Research and Conservation Planning

Species of plants and animals are declining rapidly due to habitat loss, human exploitation, climate change, and invasive species. In Ghana, biodiversity is increasingly threatened by poorly regulated activities such as unsustainable agriculture, logging, hunting, mining, and infrastructure development. Pronature Alliance Ghana supports biodiversity conservation through field research and collaboration with key stakeholders to implement effective conservation strategies. Our team focuses on researching and protecting threatened species while addressing and mitigating the ecological impacts of human activities.

Collaborative Natural Resources Governance and Community Empowerment

Pronature Alliance Ghana empowers communities to sustainably manage natural resources and improve livelihoods. We support Community Resource Management Areas (CREMAs), a model developed by Ghana’s Wildlife Division to promote collaborative wildlife and natural resource management. CREMAs enable local communities to actively participate in conservation through delegated management authority and stakeholder collaboration. We also provide alternative livelihood programs that reduce dependence on natural resources. These initiatives create sustainable income opportunities while minimizing environmental impact.

Environmental Impact Assessment & Conservation of Agricultural Systems

Pronature Alliance Ghana provides expert Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) services to evaluate and mitigate the environmental impacts of development projects. We support clients across various sectors in managing environmental risks and complying with local and international regulations. Our work promotes responsible land use practices that align with conservation goals. We also empower smallholder farmers by integrating local ecological knowledge with climate-smart agricultural approaches. Through technical support and sustainable farming strategies, we help reduce ecosystem pressure, restore degraded lands, and conserve biodiversity.

Biodiversity Conservation Awareness and Advocacy

Habitat loss and degradation are among the leading causes of biodiversity decline in Ghana. To address this challenge, Pronature Alliance Ghana supports grassroots conservation initiatives, especially in communities located near vulnerable ecosystems. We raise awareness about the importance of biodiversity conservation, provide training on species and ecosystem protection, and promote positive environmental stewardship. We also engage in conservation policy advocacy to strengthen laws and policies that protect natural resources. Our efforts support ecosystem restoration and the development of resilient landscapes that benefit both people and nature.

Forest and Freshwater Ecosystems

We are dedicated to the protection and restoration of both forest and freshwater ecosystems, focusing on preventing deforestation, promoting sustainable forestry practices, and safeguarding biodiversity to maintain the critical environmental benefits.  Additionally, we advocate for the sustainable management of freshwater ecosystems, working to protect wetlands and ensure clean and accessible water sources.

Marine and Coastal Ecosystems

The PAG team brings extensive experience in marine and coastal ecosystem conservation, with a strong focus on understanding and addressing the challenges faced by these vital ecosystems. Our team has led field studies and monitoring on sea turtles and marine mammals, focusing on the conservation of these species and their habitats. PAG actively collaborates with coastal communities to reduce poaching.

Savanna Ecosystem

PAG’s activities in the savannah landscape focus on researching key species and the development of conservation strategies. In collaboration with its partners, PAG has conducted comprehensive biodiversity surveys across the landscape. Additionally, PAG works closely with partner NGOs and local communities to promote wildlife conservation through awareness campaigns and collaborative efforts.

Agro-Ecosystems

PAG’s expertise focuses on supporting farmers in making sustainable decisions that reduce pressure on natural resources and maintain biodiversity. We provide technical support and training in nature conservation and climate-smart agriculture. Additionally, we specialize in agro-audits, regulatory compliance, and certification to ensure the quality and sustainability of agricultural products.
