Borehole Construction at the Parrot Village: Linking Community Well-being to Biodiversity Conservation

Unsafe water sources caused by pollution from illegal mining activities continue to threaten the health of communities near the Cape Three Points Forest Reserve. In response, Pronature Alliance Ghana, the Parrot Forest Association, and partners are implementing a borehole construction project to provide safe drinking water while supporting biodiversity conservation efforts in the area.

Supported by Nancy J. Jacobs and husband Peter Heywood, both of Rhode Island in the USA, the initiative forms part of the Cape Three Points Integrated Biodiversity Conservation Initiative (CTP-IBCI). The project is designed to strengthen community well-being while encouraging local participation in protecting forests and wildlife habitats.

Following sustained conservation engagement, community leaders have pledged to ban poaching and protect large trees important to Grey Parrots. By linking improved livelihoods with environmental stewardship, the project demonstrates how community support can contribute to long-term conservation success.
