Who We are

Pronature Alliance Ghana (PAG) is a Ghanaian non-profit conservation organisation dedicated to safeguarding the country’s biodiversity and natural heritage. Our work is grounded in rigorous scientific research, ensuring that all conservation actions are evidence-based, effective, and aligned with traditional norms and guided by global best practice. We recognise that conserving nature is a shared responsibility and that lasting impact is only possible through strong partnerships. Internationally, PAG collaborates with a broad network of conservation organisations, while in West Africa, we are active members of the West African Sea Turtle Network (WASTCON). Within Ghana, we work closely with initiatives such as the KASA Initiative, alongside government agencies, universities, civil society organisations, and local communities.

Through these partnerships, we promote the responsible and sustainable use of natural resources, striking a balance between ecological integrity and human well-being. We are guided by the belief that timely, accurate, and accessible information about wildlife and habitats, when placed in the hands of decision-makers, practitioners, and communities, empowers better choices and more sustainable stewardship of the natural world. At PAG, science, collaboration, and community engagement come together to secure a resilient future for people and nature.

Our History

Building on this work, PAG has continued to implement research, capacity-building, and conservation programmes across the country. Our activities span field-based science, training of emerging conservation professionals, and targeted interventions designed to inform policy and improve on-the-ground conservation outcomes. Despite growing concern for the environment, Ghana’s current conservation and environmental education efforts remain insufficient to generate the level of public awareness and collective action required to address accelerating biodiversity loss.

PAG was founded to help bridge this gap, bringing together local communities, government agencies, schools, research institutions, and the private sector around a shared commitment to environmental stewardship. By fostering collaboration, strengthening knowledge, and inspiring action at all levels of society, PAG works to ensure that Ghana’s ecosystems remain healthy, resilient, and vibrant for generations to come.

Protecting Nature
through Collaboration

Our Mission

We are dedicated to safeguarding the environment through sustainable practices. Our mission is to enhance biodiversity, restore ecosystems, and empower local communities to engage in conservation efforts.

Our Vision

To realise a marked decline in biodiversity loss in all ecosystems alongside sustainable livelihoods that are firmly pivoted on sound science and partnerships.

Our Overall Goal

In advancing our mission to safeguard nature, Pronature Alliance Ghana (PAG) works to protect and restore the ecological processes that sustain life. Our work is closely aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly as articulated by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). At its core, PAG is committed to conserving biodiversity and sustainably managing natural resources across Ghana’s terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, while contributing to regional and global conservation efforts.

We place strong emphasis on building grassroots support for conservation, empowering local livelihoods, and strengthening community capacity to respond to climate change and its cascading impacts. Through strategic partnerships, PAG supports community-based climate adaptation (SDG 13), protects forests, wildlife, and terrestrial ecosystems (SDG 15), and fosters collaboration among governments, NGOs, academic institutions, and communities to achieve lasting, science-based conservation outcomes (SDG 17).

Together, we strive to secure a future where people and nature thrive in balance.

Our Values

Respect for People

We place people at the centre of conservation. We value diverse voices, uphold dignity and equity, and foster optimism by empowering individuals and communities to be active stewards of their natural environment.

Personal Accountability

We take responsibility for our commitments and results. Each member of PAG is accountable for delivering high-quality work that reflects our mission and values.

Integrity

Trust underpins everything we do. We uphold the highest standards of ethical conduct, transparency, and honesty in our research, partnerships, and decision-making.

Teamwork

We believe conservation succeeds through collaboration. By working closely with communities, government agencies, civil society organisations, and the private sector, we strive to meet the long-term needs of both people and nature.

Together, these principles shape PAG’s commitment to impactful, inclusive, and enduring conservation outcomes.
